Who we are

DesiYaaro is an online shop for Indian ethnic wear. We sell sarees, lehengas, salwar suits, kurtis, men’s kurta sets and the jewellery that goes with them, to customers across the United States.

The shop exists because buying Indian clothing in the US is harder than it should be. Outside a handful of cities there is no shop to walk into, the big marketplaces mix genuine ethnic wear in with fancy-dress costumes, and the listings rarely tell you what the fabric actually is or how the garment is cut. We wanted a shop where the fabric, the work on it and the delivery date are all stated plainly before you pay.

What we are, and what we are not

We are an independent retailer. We are not a manufacturer, we do not own any of the labels we stock, and we are not an authorised dealer or brand representative for any of them. We buy from wholesalers and exporters and resell to you. Every trade mark and brand name on this site belongs to its owner.

Because of that, most of the product photography and the technical specifications you see – fabric composition, garment measurements, care instructions – are supplied by the manufacturer or the wholesaler. We say so on every product page rather than passing their photographs off as our own studio work. Where we have written our own description, it is our reading of the item, not a claim from the brand.

Where we are

Our office is in Camarillo, California. It is where the people who answer your emails sit; it is not a shop, not a warehouse, and not somewhere to send a return.

We previously operated from an address in Irving, Texas. It still shows up in some older records and directory listings, so we keep it on record here rather than pretend it never existed.

Where your order actually comes from

Orders are picked, packed and dispatched from our fulfilment partner’s warehouse in Hong Kong, not from the California office. That is why delivery takes longer than a domestic US order, and it is why import duty is collected at checkout. We would rather tell you that up front than surprise you with it.

How we choose what to stock

• Real garments, not costumes. Everything we list is ethnic wear made to be worn, not fancy dress. If an item is a fabric length rather than a finished garment, we say so in the title.
• Traceable products. Every item we list carries the manufacturer’s own barcode (GTIN), so the product on your doorstep is the product in the listing and you can check it independently.
• No counterfeits. We buy from suppliers who can tell us where their stock comes from. We do not knowingly stock copies of designer pieces, and we do not list an item as a brand’s product unless it is that brand’s product.
• Honest sizing. Indian sizing is not US sizing. Where the maker gives measurements we publish them, and our size guide explains how to read them.

What you can expect from us

• Delivery times stated as a range of business days, on the product page, at checkout and in your confirmation email.
• The full amount you pay shown before you pay it, import duty included. No second bill when the parcel arrives.
• A reply to any email within one business day, from a person.
• A thirty-day return window that starts the day your parcel is delivered, not the day you ordered.
